Atmospheric Gradient

A low-opacity radial or linear gradient deployed as ambient atmosphere rather than decoration — usually <5% surface area.

Atmospheric gradients add depth without drawing attention: a 3-5% white radial overlay on a dark hero, a faint linear from accent to transparent on a section divider. Catalogued sites with disciplined atmosphere — Linear, Stripe, Vercel — keep gradient intensity homeopathic. The rule: if a viewer notices the gradient, it's too loud.
