Light-first Design

A design strategy where the light canvas (white, cream, ivory) is the primary surface, and dark mode is the adapted alternative.

Light-first systems anchor their decisions to cream/ivory/white canvases. Stripe, Notion, Webflow, and most enterprise SaaS sites work this way — the audience is varied (designers, executives, end consumers), and light reads as more accessible and approachable. Light-first design demands disciplined shadows (subtle, not heavy) and warm neutrals to avoid the sterile clinical-white trap.
